The brief was to create bespoke gift boxed candles for The Secret Planthouse in Paddington train station and Llanelli.
Little Bit White Label is a white label candle maker based in Llandeilo is Carmarthenshire South Wales. Vicky the owner founded her award winning Welsh fragrance brand in 2010. Alongside her own candles ranges which can be found in 80 stockists all over Wales and England. She has turned her hand to working with other businesses to create white label candles and bespoke candle ranges.
When two businesses meet
The candles Vicky made for The Secret Planthouse are the perfect of example of two small businesses working collaboratively. Vicky met the owner of The Secret Planthouse, Cameron, when they both had pop up shops opposite each other. After many conversations about candles on quiet rainy afternoons Cameron decided that it was time to add candles to their homeware section of their shop. The candles were to be bespoke and gift boxed.
Welsh candles heading to London
This coincided with the opening of their new Secret Planthouse in Paddington train station. Welsh candles would be heading to the capital, they are already in Cardiff, don’t worry! The most difficult part of this collaboration was Cameron deciding on three fragrances for the initial range. With an entire shop full of fragrances to choose it would have been difficult for anyone. It was fun being able to let a customer try out most fragrances available even if it did make their decision difficult.
Vicky was able to advise on what fragrances would sit well next each other and not jar and also what options would appeal to the widest number of customers. It is always worth bearing this in mind as fragrance is such a personal thing, what you love others may not. Trying to appeal to everyone is hard. Usually with at least three fragrances in different styles, for example, fruity, coastal, floral, can appeal to more people. It also gives a good display on shop shelves. Working with a strong existing brand
The Secret Planthouse had very strong branding to work with so the labels were tied in with it by a designer they had already worked with. Cameron choose an amber glass jar with a kraft brown gift box to tie in with the dark green of the branding. It worked beautifully.
Adapting artwork
Vicky and Chris were able to tweak the label design slightly to make it work with the fragrance names. They were all different lengths so some moving around needed to be done to make them look cohesive next to each other.
The next step in creating a candle brand
When The Secret Planthouse also opened in Llanelli the candles were added to the shelves there too. They have proved so popular that we have just created a new special edition fragrance for spring and have just sent the new label to print. They are so fragrant they are likely to fly off the shelves too.
